THE PREDICTION

World number 52 Sara Sorribes Tormo suffered an early exit at Indian Wells this time a fortnight ago at the hands of her doubles partner, Marie Bouzkova, but no harm was done as the pair will take on fellow top duo Jelena Ostapenko and Lyudmyla Kichenok on Thursday. The 27-year-old won her second WTA title at the Cleveland Championships last summer but returning to her former place just outside the top 30 has proved to be a tough challenge after returning from injury last summer.

World number 57 Arantxa Rus finally claimed her maiden WTA title at the German Open on clay last summer, achieving a career milestone at 33 years old despite picking up over 30 ITF trophies over the past decade. The Dutchwoman has looked a little more assured on tour since but she brings a four-match losing streak into Miami that stretches back to a quarter-final exit at the Transylvanian Open last month. Sorribes Tormo won their only tour-level encounter at the Billie Jean King Cup two years ago so back the Spaniard to earn at least a set to leave the victor up to chance.
