THE PREDICTION
World number 11 Casper Ruud impressed on his way to the Los Cabos Open final last week, ousting defending champion Stefanos Tsitsipas in straight sets in the semi-finals, but he came unstuck against a man possessed in Jordan Thompson. The 25-year-old was keen to take the positives having already won more hardcourt matches in 2024 than the entirety of a tough year last season but a three-set tussle with Christopher Eubanks on Tuesday suggests there is a significant instability there. World number 55 Dusan Lajovic beat wildcard Rodrigo Pacheco in comfortable straight sets on Tuesday to maintain some strong recent form on his favoured clay, reaching back-to-back finals in Buenos Aires and Rio.
Both Ruud and Lajovic are at their best on clay but Ruud is significantly more effective in these conditions, leading Lajovic 3-1 in their head-to-head including both of their hardcourt encounters. The Norwegian should be coming through this match in straight sets on last week’s form but his Acapulco opener makes an outright call the suitably cautious call.
TIP: CASPER RUUD TO WIN
