24-year-old Zizou Bergs will set a new career-high ATP world ranking of around 105th after beating Patrick Kypson in straight sets on Monday, backing up a decent spell on the Challenger circuit this season. The Belgian has drawn the top seed here in Houston in world number 16 Ben Shelton but he has the benefit of a win in his legs, as Shelton receives a bye to the round of 16, and better experience on clay than the young American to suggest this could be tighter than some expect. 21-year-old Shelton grabbed just two tour-level wins on clay last season but his overall ATP experience is significantly greater 12 months on, particularly after winning his maiden title at the Tokyo Open in October. The suitably cautious move is taking Shelton to win outright but with that market negligible consider either leaving this one alone or risking a one-off on Bergs to snatch a set.
