THE PREDICTION
This will be, remarkably, the fourth meeting between Alex de Minaur and Andy Murray this season as the Brit continues to suffer outside of the seeds at prestigious tournaments. World number 13 De Minaur leads Murray 5-0 in a concerningly convincing head-to-head record but after consummate defeats to the Aussie in Monte-Carlo and Queen’s this summer he had match points in a three-set thriller at the Beijing Open earlier this month. Three of their five encounters have seen sets go both ways but Murray’s form has taken a pretty severe depreciation since Wimbledon, where he looked set to beat Stefanos Tsitsipas before the curfew saw the tables turn the following day, and backing De Minaur to win outright looks the sensible call here. There is the slight chance of a reversal given that De Minaur has lost four of his last eight matches but the Aussie has typically played well in Paris-Bercy, whilst 2016 champion Murray has lost in the first round on each of his past two visits.
