Ekaterina Alexandrova advanced to the third-round of a WTA 1000 event for the fourth time this season after a convincing victory over Aliaksandra Sasnovich. Alexandrova took the first set with ease and opened up a 4-1 lead in the second, though Sasnovich did threaten a comeback after reeling off three games in a row. Nevertheless, the Russian broke for a fifth time and closed it out to win 6-1 6-4. 

Her next opponent is Diana Shnaider. She also enjoyed a comfortable win in the previous stage of the event, beating Janice Tjen in straight sets. Shnaider won the first seven games of the match and saved all three break points she faced, racing to a 6-0 6-4 victory. This was her first match since a third-round exit at the US Open.

Alexandrova leads the head-to-head 2-1, but it’s 1-1 on outdoor hard court. Shnaider has enjoyed the better season and should be able to force errors out of Alexandrova.
