THE PREDICTION

World number 51 Alejandro Tabilo received a bye to the round of 16 at the Chile Open as the fourth seed this week and he should be targeting nothing less than the title on home clay, given his remarkable start to 2024. The 26-year-old stunned the field to win his maiden ATP title at the Auckland Classic last month, bringing strong Challenger form from late 2023, but he has managed just one tour-level win since despite some very tight exits at the Australian Open and in Rio last week. World number 111 Tomas Barrios Vera, also 26, became the latest player to oust the ailing former Chilean number one Cristian Garin on Tuesday and he will back himself to edge through this contest having won each his four previous encounters with Tabilo – albeit none yet at tour level.
