Switzerland preview: Unconvincing but big winners
Having headed into FIFA World Cup 2026 as the highest ranked team in Group B and with many suggesting they could go deep, Switzerland underwhelmed in their opening game as they stumbled to a 1-1 draw against minnows Qatar, conceding a late Miro Muheim own goal to equalise after the Swiss had taken a first half lead via a Breel Embolo penalty.
They were again unconvincing in their second game against Bosnia and Herzegovina but the introduction of Ruben Vargas and Johan Manzambi during the second half hydration break sparked a flurry for the Swiss as they eventually hammered the Bosnians by four goals to one with all five goals in the game coming in the 74th minute and onwards.
Canada preview: Hammering of Qatar
Co-hosts Canada appeared to be dealing with understandable nerves in their opener against Bosnia and Herzegovina as they shared a 1-1 draw with one of UEFA's play-off winners, with Southampton striker Cyle Larin scoring a late equaliser after Jovo Lukic had given the Bosnians a first half lead.
In their second game, with the pressure ramped up, the Canadians ran riot in Vancouver as they hammered Qatar by six goals to nil. Larin scored again with Jonathan David notching a hat-trick, with Mohammad Al Mannai also scoring an own goal as Qatar went down to nine men due to red cards for Homam Al Amin and Assam Madibo, the latter receiving his red card for inflicting an extremely serious injury on key Canada midfielder Ismael Kone.

Switzerland vs Canada prediction
Murat Yakin led Switzerland to the quarter-finals of UEFA EURO 2024, unfortunate to lose to England on penalties, and they wanted to go deep this summer but Yakin, who had been a more attacking manager in comparison to previous iterations of the Swiss, had reverted to a more conservative style before the closing stages of that defeat of the Bosnians in Los Angeles.
Canada earned their first ever FIFA World Cup win against the Qataris and it was a record-breaking victory for a CONCACAF side at any FIFA World Cup - and they will take immense confidence from the way in which they dominated the game, with a hammering on the cards well before Qatar's two red cards.
Canada will again be expected to attack, with home advantage, as they aim to win Group B but Yakin may also now have discovered a better system, style and selection to get the best out of his Switzerland side, too, and so both teams scoring seems a decent bet for this one.
