Sunderland preview: Ecstatic Black Cats

Sunderland continue to defy expectations upon their return to the Premier League as they picked up yet another win last weekend to leave them mixing it with the big boys near the top of the Premier League table.

The travelling Black Cats fans were in dreamland last Saturday when substitute Chemsdine Talbi's 93rd-minute goal saw them leave Stamford Bridge with all three points after a 1-2 win against Chelsea.

Everton preview: First home defeat

Everton suffered their first defeat at Hill Dickinson Stadium last Sunday with Tottenham claiming a 0-3 victory, and David Moyes was particularly unhappy with the fact that his side gave up two goals from corners, especially as they hadn't conceded any from set-pieces prior to that match.

Moyes will also be keen to see them improve their form on the road too, as the Toffees have lost three of their four away games in the Premier League this season.

Sunderland team news: Alderete back?

Omar Alderete has completed his concussion protocols with Regis Le Bris stating that he is "getting better" upon his return to training, so it remains to be seen whether he is thrust straight back into the starting line-up at the Stadium of Light.

There are otherwise five players still warming the Sunderland treatment room, although all of them could return before the new year.

Predicted XI (4-2-3-1): Roefs; Mukiele, Ballard, Alderete, Reinildo; Xhaka, Sadiki; Traore, Rigg, Le Fee; Isidor

Unavailable: Hjelde (Injured), Alese (Injured), Cirkin (Injured), Diarra (Injured), Mundle (Injured)

Questionable: Alderete (Concussion)

Everton team news: Just the two still out

Moyes will not overreact to the Spurs defeat as he was otherwise fairly positive about his team's overall performance, so it would not be a huge surprise to see an unchanged starting line-up here.

Defenders Jarrad Branthwaite and Nathan Patterson are the only known injury absentees in the Toffees camp.

Predicted XI (4-2-3-1): Pickford; O'Brien, Tarkowski, Keane, Mykolenko; Garner, Gueye; Ndiaye, Dewsbury-Hall, Grealish; Beto

Unavailable: Branthwaite (Injured), Patterson (Injured)

Questionable:

Sunderland vs Everton prediction

How long can Sunderland maintain their stunning form? That's the question that many Black Cats fans are asking, but right now it appears to be no fluke that they find themselves in the upper echelons of the Premier League table.

After shipping three goals to Spurs, Moyes will be preaching defensive solidity on the Everton training pitches this week, and they can be expected to try and stifle the opposition here.

With that in mind, under 2.5 goals is worth considering for this Monday Night Football fixture.

Sunderland vs Everton tip: Under 2.5 goals
