Strasbourg have been excellent since the appointment of Gary O’Neil but now they face their toughest test as they take on league leaders Paris Saint-Germain.

Strasbourg preview: Silky Strasbourg

Liam Rosenior had done an impressive job with Strasbourg but things had begun to go awry before his departure for Chelsea and now former Wolverhampton Wanderers manager Gary O’Neil is getting things back on track for the hosts.

They come into this one on the back of an impressive thumping of Lille by four goals to one away from home last weekend, making it three successive victories across all competitions in his opening three matches as the new boss.

Paris Saint-Germain preview: Back at the top

In midweek, Paris Saint-Germain were fortunate to avoid defeat against Newcastle United but a 1-1 draw with the Magpies at the Parc des Princes still condemned them to settling for the knockout playoff spots in the UEFA Champions League.

Luis Enrique’s Parisians have not been playing for a while. They rose back to the top-of-the-table last weekend due to Lens’ loss to Olympique de Marseille, despite another unconvincing display in a 1-0 defeat of relegation-bound Auxerre.

Strasbourg team news: Barco suspended

Argentine defender Valentin Barco is missing through suspension for this one, while Chelsea-bound Emanuel Emegha remains a doubt due to a thigh injury.

Predicted XI (4-2-3-1): Penders; Doue, Sarr, Doukoure, Chilwell; Kendry Paez, El Mourabet; Diego Moreira, Julio Enciso, Godo; Panichelli

Unavailable: Barco (Suspended)

Questionable: Sow (Injured), Amougou (Injured), Emegha (Injured)

Paris Saint-Germain team news: A few injuries

Fabian Ruiz and Khvicha Kvaratskhelia were forced off against Newcastle and they are now injury doubts alongside South Korea international attacking midfielder Lee Kang-in.

Predicted XI (4-3-3): Chevalier; Hakimi, Zabarnyi, Beraldo, Mendes; Doue, Vitinha, Neves; Barcola, Ramos, Mbaye

Unavailable: Ndjantou (Injured)

Questionable: Fabian Ruiz (Injured), Lee (Injured), Kvaratskhelia (Injured)

Strasbourg vs Paris Saint-Germain prediction

While in England, with both AFC Bournemouth and Wolves, O’Neil managed to produce better results against the so-called ‘bigger sides’. His reactive style can be clinical on the counter-attack with the right level of quality, and Strasbourg possess that. The pattern of England may already be repeating in France as they limped past rock-bottom Metz before hammering a supposedly strong, albeit out of form, Lille. PSG are shaky at the moment but do fall into the category of team that O’Neil has coached well against. PSG remain favourites but it may not be straightforward for the defending champions.

Strasbourg vs Paris Saint-Germain tip: Paris Saint-Germain to win & both teams to score
