Qinwen Zheng vs Jaqueline Cristian prediction
Qinwen Zheng dropped outside of the top 100 in the live rankings after her first-round defeat to Maja Chwalinska at Roland Garros, with the Pole going on to make the final as a qualifier. The Chinese player, who won the gold medal at the same venue in 2024, advanced to the quarter-finals last year but will now have to work her way back up again. She did get through to the semi-finals of this event last year, beating Emma Raducanu along the way.
Her first-round opponent is Jaqueline Cristian. The Romanian also suffered an early exit in Paris as she was beaten by Kamilla Rakhimova in round one. This will have been a disappointment for Cristian, as she had reached the semi-finals in Strasbourg on the eve of the tournament.
Cristian does not have a strong record on grass at all and has failed to win more than one match a year on the surface. Zheng did not have the best record either, but that run to the semis last year demonstrated that she is capable of putting together a sustained run of results.
