Poland team news: Nothing fresh

There are no fresh injury concerns or suspension issues for Poland to deal with, so with nothing to play for then they would be able to name an unchanged eleven for this one.

Predicted XI (4-2-3-1): Szemik; Matysik, Szymczak, Wos, Wiankowska; Pawollek; Krezyman, Achcinska, Grabowska, Tomasiak; Pajor

Denmark team news: Snerle dealing with concussion

Denmark, like Poland, have little to play or in their final game but they will be without Emma Snerle, as she will be missing their final group stage game due to a concussion.

Predicted XI (4-4-2): Ostergaard; Thorgersen, Faerge, Ballister Pedersen, Veje; Thomsen, K. Holmgaard, Moller Kuhl, S. Holmgaard; Vangsgaard, Harder

Unavailable: Snerle (Concussion)

Key stats

  • Denmark have won three of the previous four international matches between these teams. The exception being a 0-0 draw in a Women’s EURO qualifying match in Poland in April 2016. The most recent encounter was a 6-0 home victory for Denmark in the return fixture on 7 June 2016, in which Sanne Troelsgaard scored a hat-trick and Pernille Harder found the net twice. The other goal in the fixture was scored by current Denmark assistant coach Johanna Rasmussen.
  • This is Poland’s major final tournament debut, they are aiming for a first positive result and a first goal having lost their first two matches without scoring.
  • Denmark have lost five of their last six UEFA Women’s EURO final tournament matches (W1).
  • Denmark have never lost all three matches in a Women’s EURO group. The only occasions they failed to win at least one match were 1997 and 2013.
  • Nadia Nadim has broken the record for the most Women’s EURO final tournament appearances for Denmark with her 19th appearance. She now is set to be only the fourth player to reach 20 appearances after Birgit Prinz (Germany - 23), Solvieg Gulbrandsen (Norway - 20) and Kosovare Asllani (Sweden - 20 prior to MD3).
  • Poland’s Weronika Zawistowska and Denmark duo Pernille Harder and Stine Ballisager are Bayern München team-mates.
  • A Paris Saint-Germain player since 2018, Poland’s Paulina Dudek has played for the French club alongside three members of Denmark’s squad – Signe Bruun (2018-21), Nadia Nadim (2019-21) and Amalie Vangsgaard (2023/24).
  • Pernille Harder, the Denmark captain, played alongside her Poland counterpart, Ewa Pajor, at Wolfsburg from 2017-20, where they won four successive Bundesliga titles together.
  • Małgorzata Mesjasz played for Turbine Potsdam from 2019-22, her final season there alongside Denmark twins Karen and Sara Holmgaard.

Poland vs Denmark prediction

Poland endured a difficult qualifying campaign, but eventually reached Switzerland via the playoffs. They headed in with low expectations and it has been an underwhelming campaign with a 2-0 loss to Germany in their opener being followed up by a hammering at the hands of Sweden by three goals to nil.

They now face a Denmark side that have been a little steadier, but they have also already been eliminated ahead of their final outing against Poland. In their opener against neighbours Sweden they suffered a 1-0 loss before then suffering a 2-1 defeat to the Germans a few days’ later.

These are two average sides but they have played against two of the contenders for the title, and a slender, low-scoring Danish victory is to be expected for this one in Lucerne.

Poland vs Denmark tip: Double chance – Denmark to win or draw
