Oviedo preview: Back in La Liga

Real Oviedo returned to the top-flight of Spanish football last season after a few years of knocking on the door, and the Asturians managed to get up via the playoffs. They have spent the summer making intriguing signings to go alongside captain Santi Cazorla.

The Asturians were outplayed on the opening day as they suffered a 2-0 loss to Villarreal at El Madrigal, despite Salomon Rondon missing an early penalty for Oviedo. It wasn’t perhaps a wake up call, but definitely a sign of how difficult things are going to be.

Real Madrid preview: New era for Los Blancos

Xabi Alonso and his Real Madrid side began their campaign on Tuesday, with Los Blancos edging past Osasuna by a goal to nil with a dominant first-half performance that sloped off in the second 45. Kylian Mbappe’s penalty was the decisive factor.

Madrid have been busy in the summer with the likes of Dean Huijsen, Trent Alexander-Arnold, Alvaro Carreras and Franco Mastantuono moving to the Bernabeu, but things are going to take time to develop after a reasonable FIFA Club World Cup showing.

Oviedo team news: Alberto Reina suspended

Alberto Reina was sent off against Villarreal and is now missing through suspension. Santi Cazorla was an unused substitute last week and should come into the eleven here.

Predicted XI (4-2-3-1): Aaron; Nacho Vidal, Oier Luengo, Dani Calvo, Alhassane; Sibo, Santi Cazorla; Hassan, Ilic, Ilyas Chaira; Salomon Rondon

Unavailable: Alberto Reina (Suspended), Alvaro Lemos (Injured), Jaime Seoane (Injured)

Questionable: Lucas Ahijado (Injured), Colombatto (Injured)

Real Madrid team news: Bellingham missing

Jude Bellingham is missing the start of this season due to shoulder surgery, and the Englishman remains sidelined alongside the likes of Eduardo Camavinga and Endrick.

Predicted XI (4-3-3): Courtois; Alexander-Arnold, Militao, Dean Huijsen, Alvaro Carreras; Fede Valverde, Tchouameni, Guler; Brahim, Mbappe, Vinicius Junior

Unavailable: Rudiger (Suspended), Mendy (Injured), Camavinga (Injured), Bellingham (Injured), Endrick (Injured)

Questionable:

Oviedo vs Real Madrid prediction

Real Oviedo were way off the pace against Villarreal last weekend, but they will hope to be more competitive with the home advantage of an emotional return of top-flight football to Estadio Carlos Tartiere. However, despite the fact Madrid were blunt and fatigued in the second-half in midweek, they take on a Los Blancos side that appear as though they have a bit more ability to completely dominate and control matches, so they will fancy themselves to get a comfortable second win of the season here.
