Nuno Borges began his Swedish Open campaign with a straight sets win over Moise Kouame in the first-round. Kouame is a rising talent but did struggle at times as Borges wrapped up a 6-4 6-2 victory. The Portuguese is a former champion at this event, having beaten Rafael Nadal in the final two years ago.
He will now face former world number three Grigor Dimitrov. The Bulgarian notched up his first win on clay this season as he beat Dalibor Svrcina in three sets. Svrcina served for the first set, but Dimitrov broke back and went ahead after winning the subsequent tiebreak. His level dropped in the second, but he would go on to win 7-6 (5) 1-6 6-4.
The head-to-head is locked at 1-1, but this is their first match against each other on clay. Borges enjoys playing at this event and Dimitrov did struggle to adapt to the different conditions in his opening match.
