Nikoloz Basilashvili began his Swedish Open campaign with a straight sets win over Jan Choinski in round one. Choinski had just picked up a title on the Challenger Tour in Braunschweig, but he struggled from the start as the Georgian won 6-4 7-6 (4) after one hour and 46 minutes.
He will now face Thiago Agustin Tirante after he beat Sebastian Ofner. Tirante faced just one break point and won 83% of his first serve points as he completed a 6-3 6-4 win after one hour and 33 minutes. The Argentine progressed to the round-of-16 at the Italian Open earlier this year, along with a run to the semi-finals in Houston.
Basilashvili could only muster a first serve percentage of 49% in his previous match, and Tirante will look to create numerous opportunities in his return games. Overall, his record on clay this season makes him the favourite to book a place in the last eight.
