Monaco preview: Entertaining Monegasque

On the opening day of the season, Monaco started with a comfortable 3-1 defeat of Le Havre in a game that perhaps flattered Le Havre. They then followed that up with a 1-0 loss to Lille with Olivier Giroud scoring a winner in second-half stoppage-time.

Under the management of former Borussia Monchengladbach boss Adi Hutter, Monaco have been very entertaining to watch in recent seasons, and they have also been one of the strongest sides as they seek to hold onto the coattails of Paris Saint-Germain.

Strasbourg preview: Silky but stubborn Strasbourg

Coached by former Hull City boss Liam Rosenior, Strasbourg managed to ease themselves into the league phase of the UEFA Europa Conference League in midweek, as they defeated Brondby by three goals to two on aggregate.

The Alsace-based outfit have spent heavily this summer and they have started their season well with back-to-back 1-0 victories in Ligue 1, edging past newly-promoted Metz away from home before then defeating a poor Nantes side at home last week.

Monaco team news: Fitness issues

Two of Monaco’s star signings over the summer are not yet fully match fit for this weekend, and Paul Pogba remains sidelined alongside Barcelona loanee Ansu Fati.

Predicted XI (4-2-3-1): Hradecky; Teze, Dier, Mawissa, Caio Henrique; Camara, Zakaria; Akliouche, Golovin, Minamino; Balogun

Unavailable: Pogba (Fitness), Ansu Fati (Fitness)

Questionable:

Strasbourg team news: Defensive injuries

Strasbourg are dealing with a few defensive injury issues for this weekend with Abakar Sylla, Saidou Sow and Soumaila Coulibaly sidelined, whilst Andrew Omobamidele and Guela Doue doubts for the visitors.

Predicted XI (3-4-2-1): Penders; Sobol, Sarr, Doukoure; Mwanga, Lemarechal, El Mourabet, Ouattara; Kendry Paez, Nanasi; Panichelli

Unavailable: Sylla (Injured), Sow (Injured), Coulibaly (Injured)

Questionable: Omobamidele (Injured), Doue (Injured)

Monaco vs Strasbourg prediction

Monaco have an excellent array of attackers with Eliesse Ben Seghir, Mika Biereth and Breel Embolo not even a part of their starting lineup at the moment due to the likes of Folarin Balogun, Takumi Minamino, Maghnes Akliouche and Aleksandar Golovin. Strasbourg have had to be a little more controlled and reactive due to their defensive absentees, but that doesn’t seem too sustainable, and Monaco have to be viewed as favourites for this one, especially with Strasbourg’s midweek trip to Denmark potentially affecting them.

Monaco vs Strasbourg tip: Monaco to win
