Mexico team news: Potential rotation

The likes of Hirving Lozano and Henry Martin had to withdraw from the 2025 CONCACAF Gold Cup just before the tournament began due to injury. Mexico may well rotate, albeit top spot remains on the line in Group A.

Predicted XI (4-4-2): Luis Malagon; Israel Reyes, Cesar Montes, Johan Vasquez, Jesus Gallardo; Roberto Alvarado, Edson Alvarez, Marcel Ruiz, Alexis Vega; Julian Quinones, Raul Jimenez

Costa Rica team news: Fully fit

Much like Mexico, Costa Rica have a fully fit and available squad from the squad that was selected for the tournament. However, much like Mexico, they could well make a couple of changes having already qualified for the knockout stages.

Predicted XI (3-5-2): Keylor Navas; Jeyland Mitchell, Juan Pablo Vargas, Francisco Calvo; Carlos Mora, Brandon Aguilera, Orlando Galo, Josimar Alcocer, Joseph Mora; Alonso Martinez, Manfred Ugalde

Mexico vs Costa Rica prediction

Coached by former Real Mallorca boss Javier Aguirre, Mexico have already qualified for the knockout stages with back-to-back victories. El Tri pulled off an entertaining 3-2 defeat of the Dominican Republic in their opener before then easing past Suriname by two goals to nil the other day.

In their opening game of the tournament, Costa Rica defeated Suriname by four goals to three with Manfred Ugalde scoring a 103rd minute penalty to snatch all three points. It wasn’t straightforward in their second game, either, as they came from behind to beat the Dominican Republic by two goals to one.

These are two of the stronger sides in the North American continent, but Mexico are clearly the stronger of the two and will be confident of completing three wins from three.
