Mayar Sherif vs Elsa Jacquemot prediction
Mayar Sherif extended her winning run to 11 matches as she squeezed past Simona Waltert in the first-round of the Hamburg Open. The match went all the way to a deciding set tiebreak, with Sherif winning 5-7 6-4 7-6 (3). The Egyptian improved her record to 6-1 against Waltert, and has now won 16 of her last 17 matches in total. Sherif won the WTA 250 title at the Iasi Open last week, and that was preceded by a title on the ITF circuit.
She will now face Elsa Jacquemot for a place in the quarter-finals. The Frenchwoman won in straight sets against German wildcard Tessa Johanna Brockmann. It’s been a largely inconsistent season for Jacquemot, but she converted five out of seven break point opportunities on her way to winning 7-5 6-1.
Sherif’s first-round match did exceed the three-hour mark, but it’s hard to look past her winning yet again after such a dominant run in recent weeks.
