Matteo Arnaldi vs Lorenzo Musetti prediction
It has been tough going for Matteo Arnaldi since his superb run to the semi-finals of Roland Garros last month. The Italian then decided to compete in Eastbourne as part of the grass court season, but he lost in the first-round despite only entering the draw as a qualifier. Another defeat followed at SW19 after he was beaten in four sets by Quentin Halys. He was able to pick up a win at the Croatia Open to advance to the quarter-finals, but he then lost to Damir Dzumhur in a close three set match.
He will face compatriot Lorenzo Musetti in round one. The two-time Grand Slam semi-finalist is making his latest return from injury at the Washington Open. Musetti was forced to miss Roland Garros and Wimbledon, and has not competed since his round-of-16 loss to Casper Ruud at the Italian Open. It’s been a desperately disappointing season for the 24-year-old in terms of fitness.
Musetti does lead the head-to-head 3-0 and 1-0 on outdoor hard court, but he will be short of match fitness heading into this one. Arnaldi will hope to extend the rallies to his advantage, but he is still the underdog here.
