Matteo Arnaldi vs Flavio Cobolli prediction
Matteo Arnaldi reached his first ever Grand Slam semi-final as his opponent Matteo Berrettini was forced to retire in the second set. Arnaldi went 3-0 down at the start of the first set and had to save another break point as Berrettini threatened to run away with it. However, he admirably fought back and went on to go in front. He quickly took control of the second set, with Berrettini unable to continue as Arnaldi led 7-5 5-2.
He will now face compatriot Flavio Cobolli for a place in the final. The 24-year-old came from a set down to beat Felix Auger-Aliassime. Both players struggled in windy conditions at the start of the match, with Cobolli getting broken as he was serving to stay in the first set. The next three sets were played under the roof, and the Italian began to take control, eventually winning 4-6 6-4 6-4 6-4.
The head-to-head is locked at 1-1 between the pair, after two meetings on clay. They played against each other in the second-round of this event last year, with Cobolli prevailing in four sets. Arnaldi has fought magnificently throughout this tournament and should be able to extend the rallies to his advantage at times. He is unlikely to make life easy for Cobolli, but the higher-ranked Italian will still be expected to come through.
