After reaching the second round of the US Open on his Grand Slam debut last year, Martin Damm came through three rounds of qualifying to make the main draw in Melbourne.
The American, currently ranked 177 in the world, has won seven singles titles on the Challenger circuit, with two of those coming last year on hard courts.
2025 was a memorable year for Valentin Vacherot, who particularly came to attention in the latter half of the year when he surprisingly won the 1000-rated Shanghai Masters.
The 27-year-old followed that with a quarter-final appearance at the similarly prestigious Paris Masters, and as a result of those two events he finds himself ranked 31st in the world despite having only made one Grand Slam main draw appearance prior to the Australian Open.
Vacherot reached the quarter-finals of the Adelaide International last week, and we think he has what it takes to win this opener in straight sets.
