Marseille preview: Defeat in midweek

Olympique de Marseille come into this one on the back of a controversial 1-0 defeat to Atalanta in the league phase of the UEFA Champions League in midweek, making it three defeats in their four matches in Ligue 1.

The home team scraped past Auxerre by a goal to nil with an unconvincing performance in Ligue 1 last weekend. That has left them sitting two points behind defending champions and league leaders Paris Saint-Germain.

Brest preview: Entertaining Brest

Coached by Eric Roy, Stade Brest have been one of the overachievers in recent Ligue 1 seasons but they have regressed to being a bottom-half side, albeit they are an entertaining bottom-half side with their 11 matches consisting of 32 goals.

Brest come into this one on the back of a rare low-scoring encounter for the visitors as they shared a goalless draw with Olympique Lyonnais, a few days after they had been beaten 1-0 by Le Havre at Stade Oceane.

Marseille team news: Ulisses Garcia suspended

Switzerland international left-back Ulisses Garcia was sent off against Auxerre last weekend and so the defender is now missing through suspension for this one.

Predicted XI (3-4-1-2): Rulli; Pavard, Egan-Riley, Emerson; Michael Amir Murillo, Hojbjerg, Hojbjerg, O’Riley, Lirola; Gomes; Greenwood, Igor Paixao

Unavailable: Medina (Injured), Ulisses Garcia (Suspended), Kondogbia (Injured), Traore (Injured)

Questionable: Balerdi (Injured), Nadir (Injured), Weah (Injured)

Brest team news: Doumbia a doubt

Brest head to the Velodrome with just one injury concern as key man, Guinea international attacking midfielder Kamory Doumbia, remains a doubt.

Predicted XI (4-2-3-1): Majecki; Lala, Chardonnet, Coulibaly, Locko; Chotard, Tousart; Balde, Del Castillo, Mboup; Ajorque

Unavailable:

Questionable: Doumbia (Injured)

Marseille vs Brest prediction

Marseille have an abundance of attacking options and, with Roberto De Zerbi at the helm, they try and play a front foot and aggressive style of football. The Italian can be susceptible to changing his side too much and that perhaps contributes to their chaotic results and performances. Brest’s goals per game ratio this season has been thrilling and they are due a high-scoring encounter, with Marseille still the firm favourites.

Marseille vs Brest tip: Marseille to win & over 2.5 goals
