Maria Timofeeva vs Aliaksandra Sasnovich prediction
Maria Timofeeva competed in Athens last week but lost comprehensively against Ann Li in her opening match. She did impress at Wimbledon as she won all three of her qualifying matches to enter the main draw and then backed that up with a win over Beatriz Haddad Maia in round one. She lost to Elise Mertens in the next stage. Timofeeva also won her maiden WTA 125 singles title in Istanbul earlier this year.
Her first-round opponent is Aliaksandra Sasnovich. The Belarusian won her first-round match against Anna Blinkova in Athens, before a loss to Tereza Valentova. She also failed to qualify for Wimbledon after a defeat in the final stage to Bianca Andreescu in straight sets. The 32-year-old is yet to advance to a quarter-final on the WTA Tour this season.
She does lead the head-to-head 2-0 and 1-0 on hard court. They met right at the start of the year in the qualifying rounds of the Brisbane International, with Sasnovich winning in three sets. Neither player is an overwhelming favourite in this one.
