Maria Sakkari vs Tatjana Maria prediction
Maria Sakkari advanced to the third-round of Roland Garros for the first time since her run to the semi-finals in 2021, but she was unable to go further as she lost to Maja Chwalinska despite convincingly taking the first set. The former world number three’s best result of the season was a semi-final appearance at the Qatar Open back in February.
She faces Tatjana Maria in the first-round. The German pulled off a shock last year as she won the title despite having to go through qualifying. She beat a host of big names, including Amanda Anisimova in the final, to become the oldest winner of a WTA 500 event. Maria is also a former Wimbledon semi-finalist, advancing to that stage in 2022.
She defeated Sakkari on her way to getting there in their only previous encounter on grass, though the Greek does lead the overall head-to-head 3-2. In contrast to Maria, Sakkari has never enjoyed the best record on grass, and she could have her work cut out against the defending champion in round one.
