Manchester United are seeking to finish 2025 with a flourish as they welcome a woeful Wolverhampton Wanderers side to Old Trafford in their final game of the calendar year.

Man Utd preview: Improved Red Devils

After finishing 15th in the Premier League last season, Manchester United have been much-improved this time around with the Red Devils eyeing up a top four or five spot and potential UEFA Champions League qualification.

The hosts come into this one on the back of a slender 1-0 victory over Newcastle United at Old Trafford in their most recent outing on Boxing Day, courtesy of a first-half winner scored by Denmark international wing-back Patrick Dorgu.

Wolves preview: Woeful Wolves

Even following the poaching of Middlesbrough boss Rob Edwards in the October international break, Wolverhampton Wanderers have remained woeful in the Premier League with just two points collected from their 18 matches thus far.

Wolves have been able to put in some better performances away at others members of the so-called ‘big six’ in England’s top-flight, and their most recent outing saw them suffer a 2-1 loss to reigning champions Liverpool at Anfield.

Man Utd team news: No Bruno but continuing to switch

Once again, Ruben Amorim has confirmed that Bruno Fernandes will not be involved against Wolves, despite the club captain insisting that he is now ready to train.

It has also been confirmed that Mason Mount will have to be assessed. Amorim switched to a 4-2-3-1 shape against Newcastle and the expectation is that they will stick with that.

Predicted XI (4-2-3-1): Lammens; Dalot, Heaven, Martinez, Shaw; Ugarte, Casemiro; Dorgu, Cunha, Zirkzee; Sesko

Unavailable: Maguire (Injured), De Ligt (Injured), Mazraoui (International duty), Mainoo (Injured), Fernandes (Injured), Diallo (International duty), Mbeumo (International duty)

Questionable: Mount (Fitness)

Wolves team news: Defensive & midfield issues

Rob Edwards has said that Yerson Mosquera was only suffering from cramp against Liverpool and so is expected to return here, while fellow centre-back Santiago Bueno is dealing with a knock.

Key midfielder Andre is missing through suspension so there is even more importance on fellow Brazil international midfielder Joao Gomes in the middle of the park for Wolves.

Predicted XI (3-4-2-1): Johnstone; Doherty, S. Bueno, Toti; Tchatchoua, Lopez, Andre, Wolfe; Hwang, Arias; Strand Larsen

Unavailable: Bentley (Injured), Agbadou (International duty), Toti (Injured), Munetsi (Injured), Chirewa (International duty), Andre (Suspended), Chiwone (Injured), R. Gomes (Injured), Bellegarde (Injured)

Questionable: S. Bueno (Injured), Mosquera (Fitness)

Man Utd vs Wolves prediction

Manchester United have switched their system with, presumably, an intent to try and play a bit more on the front foot. It certainly helped the aforementioned Dorgu to be more effective in the final third. They now face a Wolves side that can be stubborn opposition when the task is clear and sitting back to soak up pressure is very clearly the task. Given the lack of fluency to be brought about by a team still adapting to a new shape, it may not be a great game for the neutral but it is one whereby the hosts should stumble to another win.

Man Utd vs Wolves tip: Man Utd to win & under 3.5 goals
