Mallorca preview: Back to attack
On the opening day of the season, Real Mallorca suffered a 3-0 loss to defending double winners Barcelona in the Balearic Islands. The Majorcans were spirited but were comfortably beaten by goals from Raphinha, Ferran Torres and Lamine Yamal.
With former Osasuna boss Jago Arrasate at the helm, Mallorca were expected to play a more progressive style of football as they challenge for a top seven finish, having missed out on European qualification in the closing weeks of last season.
Celta Vigo preview: Slow start
The team that managed to capitalise on Mallorca’s underwhelming finish to the season was Celta Vigo, as they finished seventh and qualified for the UEFA Europa League with an entertaining style of football coached by former B team coach Claudio Giraldez.
After a bit of registration issues over the summer, the Galicians started their season slowly at Balaidos last weekend, as they suffered a 2-0 loss at home to Getafe thanks to goals from Adrian Liso and Christantus Uche for the Madrid-based outfit.
Mallorca team news: Couple of suspensions
In that game against Barca, Mallorca lost their heads a bit and both Manu Morlanes and Vedat Muriqi were sent off for the hosts, with both players now missing through suspension.
Predicted XI (4-2-3-1): Leo Roman; Mateu Morey, Valjent, Antonio Raillo, Johan Mojica; Omar Mascarell, Antonio Sanchez; Asano, Pablo Torre, Sergi Darder; Larin
Unavailable: Manu Morlanes (Suspended), Muriqi (Suspended)
Questionable: Costa (Injured)
Celta Vigo team news: A few issues
Ahead of their trip to Palma de Mallorca, Celta have a few issues as Carl Starfelt is sidelined, with both Joseph Aidoo and Franco Cervi doubts for the Galicians this week.
Predicted XI (3-4-3): Radu; Javi Rodriguez, Yoel Lago, Marcos Alonso; Oscar Mingueza, Fran Beltran, Ilaix Moriba, Ristic; Iago Aspas, Ferran Jutgla, Swedberg
Unavailable: Starfelt (Injured)
Questionable: Aidoo (Injured), Cervi (Injured)
Mallorca vs Celta Vigo prediction
Mallorca haven’t necessarily played a more entertaining style of football since the appointment of Jago Arrasate last summer, but they are less direct. That does mean they often prefer to play without star man Vedat Muriqi. Celta are a team that can offer teams that struggle to create a space a lot of space and siding with the Majorcans may well appear to be a good value bet for this one at Son Moix.
Mallorca vs Celta Vigo tip: Double chance – Mallorca to win or draw
