Mainz, now under the management of Urs Fischer, have been much-improved in the last few months as they push clear of the Bundesliga relegation battle. The hosts eased past Czech side Sigma Olomouc by two goals to nil on aggregate in the round of 16 last month.
They now face a Strasbourg side that have remained steady and fairly strong with former Wolverhampton Wanderers boss Gary O'Neil at the helm. They returned from the break with an impressive 3-1 defeat of Nice at the weekend.
Both of these teams head into this quarter-final in more than reasonable form and they should both be proactive with both teams scoring seeming a good bet for this first-leg in Germany.
