Lyon preview: Strong but frustrated

Having recovered from their tumultuous summer brought about by their shoddy opener ship of John Textor. A more streamlined Lyon are setting out to be more serious on the pitch, though they do keep throwing in the odd woeful outing.

Lyon come into this one on the back of an impressive 2-1 win away at Lille at Stade Pierre-Mauroy in the Coupe de France last weekend, meaning that they have suffered just one defeat in their last nine matches across all competitions.

Brest preview: Mid-table Brest

In the last couple of seasons, Stade Brest have majorly overperformed with UEFA Champions League qualification but they have since regressed to the middle-of-the-table, which is still a more than reasonable spot for the visitors.

Brest, under the management of former Sunderland player Eric Roy, come into this one on the back of a comfortable 2-0 defeat of Auxerre last weekend, with goals being scored by Ludovic Ajorque and Joris Chotard.

Lyon team news: Niakhate at AFCON

Key centre-back Moussa Niakhate is away at the CAF Africa Cup of Nations final with Senegal, while experienced midfielder Corentin Tolisso is missing through suspension.

Predicted XI (3-4-2-1): Greif; Kluivert, Clinton Mata, Tagliafico; Maitland-Niles, Mangala, Morton, Abner; Merah, Sulc; Endrick

Unavailable: Niakhate (International duty), Tolisso (Suspended), Nuamah (Injured), Fofana (Injured)

Questionable:

Brest team news: Le Cardinal suspended

Brest defender Julien Le Cardinal is missing through suspension for the visitors, while Mama Balde is missing due to injury with Kenny Lala also a doubt due to a knee injury.

Predicted XI (4-2-3-1): Coudert; Lascary, Chardonnet, Coulibaly, Guindo; Chotard, Magnetti; Del Castillo, Ajorque, Zogbe; Kante

Unavailable: Le Cardinal (Suspended), Balde (Injured)

Questionable: Lala (Injured)

Lyon vs Brest prediction

Brest’s victory over a struggling Auxerre side has continued the improved form of the visitors of late, making it four victories in their last five matches in Ligue 1. Lyon themselves are also in excellent form, albeit may be slightly distracted by the return of the UEFA Europa League this week. These are two good, in-form teams and both teams scoring would appear a solid bet.

Lyon vs Brest tip: Both teams to score
