  • Luxembourg have lost four of their last five World Cup qualifying matches (W1).
  • Northern Ireland have lost only one of their previous seven international matches against Luxembourg (W4 D2).
  • Northern Ireland have won only two of their last 12 World Cup qualifying matches (D4 L6).
  • Northern Ireland have lost only two of their last seven World Cup qualifying matches (D3 L2).
  • Northern Ireland have kept four clean sheets in their last seven World Cup qualifying matches.

Luxembourg vs Northern Ireland prediction

As mentioned, Luxembourg have been improved in the last few years, coming close to qualification for the 2022 FIFA World Cup at one stage. They come into this one on the back of a goalless draw with Ireland in a friendly in June. That does now mean that they have managed just one victory in their last eight matches.

These sides faced off against each other in League C of the 2024/25 UEFA Nations League campaign, with Northern Ireland beating Luxembourg by two goals to nil at Windsor Park in Belfast and then drawing 2-2 away. They have been continually improving during Michael O’Neill’s second stint in charge.

Northern Ireland have been improving and they are the favourites to at the very at least avoid defeat in this opening game of UEFA qualification for the 2026 FIFA World Cup.

Luxembourg vs Northern Ireland tip: Double chance – Northern Ireland to win or draw
