Wanting to challenge for Europe this season, Lorient continue their 2026-27 Ligue 1 campaign with the visit of a strong Monaco side to Stade du Moustoir.

Lorient preview: Well run

Over the summer, Lorient parted company with Olivier Pantaloni and replaced him with former Angers boss Alexandre Dujeux as they seek to push themselves towards the top seven and the European spots in Ligue 1.

Lorient come into this one on the back of a slender but impressive 1-0 defeat of a strong Paris FC side at Stade du Moustoir last weekend, courtesy of a 68th minute winner scored by Gabin Bernardeau.

Monaco preview: Strong start

Former Flamengo boss Filipe Luis has returned to Europe to take charge of Monaco and the Brazilian has done well thus far in the principality as they begin this weekend’s round of fixtures sitting at the top-of-the-table.

The Monegasque also earned themselves a victory in their opening league phase game in the UEFA Europa Conference League the other day as they defeated CSKA Sofia by two goals to one with goals scored by Paris Brunner and Ansu Fati.

Lorient team news: Nothing fresh

Lorient midfielder Bandiougou Fadiga is working his way back to full fitness but Noah Mbamba remains sidelined for the hosts due to a hamstring injury.

Predicted XI (3-4-3): Mvogo; Adjei, Talbi, Toure; Sylla, Cadiou, Georgen, Kouassi; Makengo, Kone, Jensen

Unavailable: Mbamba (Injured)

Questionable: Fadiga (Fitness)

Monaco team news: Fresh issues

Monaco have some fresh issues for this one as Eric Dier, Lamine Camara and Stanis Idumbo are all doubts, while in-form striker Paris Brunner is missing through suspension.

Predicted XI (4-2-3-1): Hradecky; Vanderson, Sane, Mawissa, Nazinho; Teze, Zakaria; Diop, Golovin, Detourbet; Abline

Unavailable: Brunner (Suspended)

Questionable: Dier (Injured), Camara (Injured), Stanis Idumbo (Injured)

Lorient vs Monaco prediction

Monaco are the only team unbeaten in Ligue 1 and the visitors are unbeaten in nine matches across all competitions so far this season. Their performances have dipped as the domestic campaign has gone on but they are expected to be extremely difficult to play against. Lorient haven’t really taken on their style of football and remain fairly tough to watch from a neutral perspective and so backing a low-scoring contest seems a decent bet.

Lorient vs Monaco tip: Under 2.5 goals
