Liverpool appear to have discovered some attacking fluency of late as the Reds now welcome an inconsistent Manchester City side to Anfield on Sunday afternoon.

Kick-off date/time:

How to watch on TV: UK – Sky Sports / USA – Not televised

How to watch online: UK – Sky Go / USA – Peacock

Liverpool preview: Back to attack

After a 13-match unbeaten run of form across all competitions, Liverpool supporters remained annoyed by the defensive and overly cautious approach of Arne Slot but that run ending may finally have prompted a bit more attacking intent.

Following a 3-2 loss to AFC Bournemouth, Liverpool then managed to demolish Qarabag by six goals to nil in the UEFA Champions League before coming from behind to hammer Newcastle United 4-1 at Anfield.

Man City preview: Into the cup final

It may be the final few months of the Pep Guardiola reign and it may well be diminishing returns at Manchester City but they remain just about in the title race and also moved themselves into yet another cup final in midweek.

Man City hammered Newcastle United by three goals to one at the Etihad Stadium to ensure a 5-1 aggregate victory in the semi-finals of the EFL Cup, courtesy of a brace scored by Omar Marmoush as well as a goal from Tijjani Reijnders.

Liverpool team news: Still no Frimpong

In his pre-match press conference ahead of a marquee match up with City, Arne Slot has confirmed that summer signing Jeremie Frimpong will not be available as he has not yet returned to training.

However, his fellow defender Joe Gomez could return to the squad. They had plenty of defensive injury issues to worry about, which is why they eventually tried to execute a failed move for Lutsharel Geertruida last week.

Predicted XI (4-2-3-1): Alisson; Szoboszlai, Konate, Van Dijk, Kerkez; Gravenberch, Mac Allister; Salah, Jones, Wirtz; Ekitike

Unavailable: Leoni (Injured), Bradley (Injured), Frimpong (Injured), Bajcetic (Injured), Isak (Injured), Danns (Injured)

Questionable: Gomez (Injured)

Man City team news: Silva a doubt

Pep Guardiola has said he is not sure whether or not experienced midfielder Bernardo Silva will be fit for this one after he came off against Spurs last week and missed the cup clash with Newcastle.

However, they do have some bonuses in defence as Ruben Dias has now returned to full fitness, while John Stones returned to training earlier on this week, too.

Predicted XI (4-3-3): Donnarumma; Nunes, Dias, Guehi, O’Reilly; Reijnders, Rodri, Foden; Cherki, Haaland, Semenyo

Unavailable: Gvardiol (Injured), Kovacic (Injured), Doku (Injured), Savinho (Injured)

Questionable: Stones (Fitness), Silva (Injured)

Liverpool vs Man City prediction

It could well be that a loss has given Liverpool the lease of life that they needed in the final third and they have scored ten goals in two games since that defeat with Florian Wirtz in excellent form at the moment. City cannot be trusted at all at the moment and they are some way off the relentlessness of their past selves. This one has the potential to be quite a fun watch for the neutral.

Liverpool vs Man City tip: Over 2.5 goals
