Lilli Tagger advanced to her second WTA quarter-final of the season as she defeated Mai Hontama in straight sets. She fired down six aces as she wrapped up a 6-4 6-4 win over the qualifier in one hour and 38 minutes. The 18-year-old also progressed to the last eight at the Linz Open.
Tagger will now face Sara Beljek for the second time in a week after the Czech thrashed Maria Timofeeva. Bejlek, who won her first tour-level title at the Abu Dhabi Open earlier this year, broke on six separate occasions as she won 6-1 6-1. She is now through to her second successive quarter-final on the WTA Tour.
They faced each other for the first time just last week in Athens at the round-of-16 stage, with Bejlek comfortably winning 6-2 6-2. She is even more of a favourite on home soil, and this could be another tough match for Tagger.
