Lille preview: Genesio’s Lille

Bruno Genesio has continued the good work that Paulo Fonseca did at Lille, and the northerners, despite free transfer departures of Angel Gomes and Jonathan David this summer, are expected to be good to watch for the neutral this season.

That was best shown on the opening day of the campaign as they shared a thrilling 3-3 draw with Stade Brest at Stade Francis-Le Ble. Lille took the lead on three occasions in that match via Olivier Giroud, Hakon Haraldsson and Ngal’ayel Mukau.

Monaco preview: Hutter’s Monaco

Under the management of former Borussia Monchengladbach boss Adi Hutter, Monaco have been one of the most entertaining, and generally best, sides in Ligue 1, and that is expected to continue with the additions of Eric Dier, Paul Pogba and Ansu Fati.

The Monegasque come into this one on the back of a 3-1 victory over Le Havre at Stade Louis II on the opening day of the season with the aforementioned Dier getting on the scoresheet on debut, alongside attacking midfielder Maghnes Akliouche.

Lille team news: Several doubts

Lille have several key injury doubts for this weekend, with Thomas Meunier among those potentially unavailable alongside the likes of Aissa Mandi and Tiago Santos.

Predicted XI (4-2-3-1): Ozer; Goffi, Ngoy, Alexsandro, Perraud; Mukau, Andre; Fernandez-Pardo, Haraldsson, Correia; Giroud

Unavailable: Mbappe (Injured)

Questionable: Mandi (Injured), Toure (Injured), Meunier (Injured), Santos (Injured), Broholm (Injured), Sahraoui (Injured)

Monaco team news: Deep squad

Monaco have a very deep and impressive squad but the visitors are without some key players due to a lack of match fitness, such as the aforementioned Pogba and Ansu Fati.

Predicted XI (4-2-3-1): Hradecky; Teze, Dier, Mawissa, Caio Henrique; Camara, Zakaria; Akliouche, Minamino, Golovin; Biereth

Unavailable: Pogba (Fitness)

Questionable: Salisu (Injured), Ansu Fati (Fitness), Embolo (Injured), Balogun (Injured)

Lille vs Monaco prediction

Lille will believe they can once again take the game to Monaco, who did allow a lot of chances against a Le Havre side that managed just 25% of the possession. Monaco were entertaining and created a lot, but were still wasteful, despite their three goals. As a result, this game appears to be trending in just one direction and that is for a high-scoring clash that is a thriller for the neutral.

Lille vs Monaco tip: Over 2.5 goals
