Lazio preview: Poor Lazio
Lazio come into this one having suffered a 2-0 loss to Como at Stadio Giuseppe Sinigaglia on the opening day of the season, last weekend. In an even contest, Tasos Douvikas and Nico Paz scored the goals for Como in the second-half.
After former Hellas Verona boss Marco Baroni started well at Lazio last season, the club decided to once again be impatient by firing him and he has now been permanently replaced by returning former Chelsea and Napoli boss Maurizio Sarri.
Hellas Verona preview: Likely strugglers
Since Baroni’s departure for Lazio in the summer of 2024, Hellas Verona have been under the management of Paolo Zanetti, playing the part of Jekyll and Hyde in Serie A, and the expectation is that they have to battle against the drop this season.
Verona started the 2025/26 season with a 1-1 draw with Udinese at the Bluenergy Stadium in Friuli last weekend, a week after requiring penalties to defeat Serie B side Audace Cerignola in the first round of the Coppa Italia.
Lazio team news: Romagnoli suspended
Centre-back Alessio Romagnoli is missing through suspension at the start of this season, with defensive injury issues, too, such as Patric and Samuele Gigot.
Predicted XI (4-3-3): Provedel; Lazzari, Gila, Provstgaard, Tavares; Guendouzi, Cataldi, Dele-Bashiru; Cancellieri, Taty Castellanos, Zaccagni
Unavailable: Patric (Injured), Romagnoli (Suspended)
Questionable: Gigot (Injured), Matias Vecino (Injured), Isaksen (Injured)
Hellas Verona team news: Yago Santiago a doubt
Defensive midfielder Yago Santiago, who joined from Elche this summer, is a doubt for this weekend, whilst both Nicolas Valentini and Tomas Suslov are sidelined for Verona.
Predicted XI (3-5-2): Montipo; Unai Nunez, Nelsson, Frese; Cham, Niasse, Bernede, Serdar, Bradaric; Giovane, Sarr
Unavailable: Valentini (Injured), Suslov (Injured)
Questionable: Yago Santiago (Injured)
Lazio vs Hellas Verona prediction
The pressure is already immediately on Maurizio Sarri, with his Lazio side requiring major improvement this season, and this weekend after their very flat opener against Como last week. They face a Verona side that head to the capital city aware that they could well be circling the drain in Serie A, and so their aim will be to be as defensive and as tight as possible, with Lazio firm favourites despite their issues.
