Despite her strong results in the clay court season, which saw Karolina Pliskova advance to the round-of-16 in Rome and the quarter-finals in Madrid, she was unable to make it out of French Open qualifying as she was beaten in the second stage. The former world number one is still ranked outside of the top 100, but she should be able to take plenty of encouragement from how she performed at those two WTA 1000 events. Pliskova is a former Wimbledon finalist and has also won three grass court titles.
She plays McCartney Kessler in the first-round. The American did reach the second-round at Roland Garros, losing to Diana Shnaider in straight sets. Kessler has advanced to two quarter-finals on the WTA Tour this season, and she is ranked safely inside the top 50. She could only make the second-round of this event in 2025.
Pliskova is a seasoned grass court performer, and she is likely to benefit from the quick points and shorter exchanges the surface often produces.
