Jakub Mensik has been playing well recently in singles competition and he’ll hope to take that momentum into this doubles tournament as he joins up with Karolina Muchova. The latter reached the quarter-finals last year with Andrey Rublev and looked impressive. Their opponents have been afforded a second chance and enter the first round as ‘lucky losers’, but that doesn’t make them pushovers in this format.

Kristina Mladenovic and Marcelo Arevalo are mixed doubles veterens and played against each other in the Australian Open semi-finals earlier this year, Mladenovic winning that battle. But they struggled together last time out and face Muchova, who is having a great year and Mensik who is in decent form. Therefore, expect a close game that goes the distance.
