The American top seed notched a clinical 6-3 6-1 success over the Turkish underdog to set a showdown with Lilli Tagger, who won a teenage tussle 7-5 6-3 with Tereza Valentova.

This will be a first meeting with Li, 26, hoping to make the most of her greater experience.

The 18-year-old Austrian, Tagger, will have eyes on a return to the top 50 here, but Li is probably more adept in these conditions and her flat groundstrokes and desire to take the ball early may help her attack the youngster’s one-handed backhand to good effect.
