Jiri Lehecka vs Jan-Lennard Struff prediction

Jiri Lehecka brought an end to Jerome Kym’s fairy-tale week in Basel, easing past the Swiss wildcard 6-4, 6-2.

That has been a familiar sight for Lehecka’s opponents, as he has been relatively comfortable in his wins over Stan Wawrinka, Daniel Altmaier and now Kym this week. The 24-year-old Czech has been in really good form over the last couple of months on the ATP Tour, and he has as good a chance as anybody in Basel this week.

He comes up against Jan-Lennard Struff, who followed up his outstanding win over Novak Djokovic with a relatively comfortable 6-2, 6-3 victory over Portugal’s Nuno Borges. His serve was not quite as good as it was against Djokovic, but his all-round game was substantially better than Borges’ throughout as he reached the semi-finals.

He now takes on Lehecka knowing he has yet to beat him on the ATP Tour in three previous encounters, with Lehecka winning all three, including at the ATP Masters 1000 event in Rome earlier this year.

That said, Struff had lost all eight of his previous encounters with Djokovic before beating him this week, but it is hard to see him playing the perfect match again to beat Lehecka.

Struff has nothing to lose at this stage of his career, but our clear preference is Lehecka, who is playing really well at present, and we fancy his chances of reaching the final.
