Jerome Kym picked up a tour-level victory on home soil as he defeated Dylan Dietrich in three sets. Kym took the lead, but Dietrich controlled the second set to force a decider. The third went all the way to a tiebreak, with Kym winning 7-6 (3) 2-6 7-6 (5).
He will now face former world number three Stefanos Tsitsipas for a place in the last eight. Tsitsipas comfortably got past Ignacio Buse in his opening match. Buse had beaten Tsitsipas just last month at the Mallorca Championships, but it was the two-time Grand Slam finalist who came out on top on this occasion as he wrapped up a 6-4 6-4 victory over the fifth seed. The Greek conceded just the one break point opportunity. Tsitsipas is aiming to reach just his second quarter-final of the campaign so far.
Tsitsipas will take confidence from his display in the first-round, and he should have too much quality for Kym in this one.
