Jakub Mensik vs Alexander Zverev prediction

Jakub Mensik continued his best ever run at a Grand Slam as he advanced to his first major semi-final following a straight sets win over Joao Fonseca. Mensik dominated the first two sets and did not even face a break point on his serve. He went a break down on two occasions in the third, but he crucially broke back as Fonseca was serving for it. The Czech had numerous match points in the 12th game, but he would still seal victory in the tiebreak to win 6-4 6-3 7-6 (3).

He now faces world number three Alexander Zverev. The German kept his quest for a maiden Grand Slam title alive as he beat Rafael Jodar in straight sets. Jodar made the better start of the two players and served for the first set, but Zverev broke back and dominated the tiebreak. It was straight-forward for the three-time slam finalist after that, and a fabulous forehand down the line clinched victory as he won 7-6 (3) 6-1 6-3. He is now into his fifth semi-final at Roland Garros.

These two played each other for the first time in Madrid earlier this year, with Zverev prevailing in three sets. Mensik has spent far more time on court, but he should be able to recover with the extra rest day. He will need to serve extremely well to remain competitive with Zverev, but the German’s experience and overall quality make him a clear favourite.
