Iva Jovic got her grass court season up and running with a comfortable win over Antonia Ruzic. There were seven breaks of serve in the first set, but the second was more straight-forward for the American as she marked her Queen’s Club debut with a 6-3 6-4 win. This was the 18-year-old’s first tour-level victory on grass.
She now faces Alexandra Eala. The Filipino extended her winning streak to six matches as she easily got past Shuai Zhang. Eala won the title in Birmingham last week and carried on the momentum with a 6-3 6-2 victory over the veteran.
These two played each other for the first time just last month in the first-round of Roland Garros, with Jovic comfortably winning in straight sets. However, Eala is likely to make this a far more competitive encounter on grass, and she has the weapons to challenge Jovic on a quick surface.
