  • The Republic of Ireland are unbeaten in their last five World Cup qualifying matches (W2 D3).
  • The Republic of Ireland have not conceded a goal in their last three World Cup qualifying matches.
  • Hungary have lost only three of their last 11 World Cup qualifying matches (W6 D2).

Ireland vs Hungary prediction

With former Iceland and Jamaica boss Heimur Hallgrimsson at the helm, the Irish are expected to continue to play a very dour and defensive style of football, albeit they do have some improving players in their squad. They managed to avoid relegation from League B in the UEFA Nations League recently.

They face a Hungarian side that were instead relegated from League A of the UEFA Nations League due to a comprehensive playoff defeat to Turkey during the March international break. They most recently defeated Azerbaijan in a friendly in June to end a five-match winless run.

That unconvincing win against the Azeris means that Hungary have managed just two victories in their last ten matches since beating Scotland at UEFA EURO 2024, and siding with the Irish may well be a very good value bet for this one at the Aviva Stadium.

Ireland vs Hungary tip: Double chance – Ireland to win & under 3.5 goals
