Iceland do have some intriguing talents coming through at the moment as the Icelanders now welcome a stagnating and declining Azerbaijan side to Reykjavik.

Kick-off date/time:

How to watch on TV: UK – Not televised / US – FOX Sports

How to watch online: UK – Amazon Prime / US – Disney+

Key stats

  • Iceland have won only two of their last ten World Cup qualifying matches (D3 L5).
  • Azerbaijan have lost nine and drawn one of their last ten World Cup qualifying matches.

Iceland vs Azerbaijan prediction

In what is a tough group alongside France and Ukraine, both of these sides will need to hit the ground running after some disappointing results in their last few outings.

Iceland were beaten 5-2 on aggregate in their promotion/relegation playoff against Kosovo in the UEFA Nations League during the March international break. They have some interesting talents, though, such as Hakon Haraldsson at Lille and Albert Gudmundsson at Fiorentina. They now face an Azerbaijan side that come into this one on the back of a 2-1 defeat to Hungary in Baku in the month of June, meaning that they are now winless in their last ten matches.

Iceland may not have been able to put their emerging talent together for some rhythm and fluency, but they are the firm and overwhelming favourites for this one with their home advantage.

Iceland vs Azerbaijan tip: Iceland to win -1 handicap
