Hoffenheim Preview: Underperformance of Hoffenheim

In the November international break, Hoffenheim decided to appoint Sturm Graz boss Christian Ilzer but things did not improve as last season’s sixth placed team struggled down in the bottom three and the relegation places but they have enjoyed some improved results of late.

The hosts most recently defeated fellow strugglers Bochum by a goal to nil at the Vonovia Ruhrstadion last weekend thanks to a 72nd minute winner scored by Tomas Bischof. They have now collected seven points from their last three matches.

Heidenheim Preview: Regression for Heidenheim

Heidenheim begin this weekend’s round of fixtures sitting rock-bottom in the Bundesliga with their full focus now on the league following their elimination from the UEFA Europa Conference League at the knockout playoff round tie to Copenhagen last month.

The visitors’ most recent outing saw them suffer a 3-0 hammering at the hands of Borussia Monchengladbach at the Voith-Arena last weekend. Heidenheim have now collected just two points from their last eight matches, sinking to the bottom-of-the-table.

Hoffenheim Team News: A few issues

Hoffenheim have a few key concerns for this weekend’s visit of Heidenheim as long-term absentees Ozan Kabak, Grischa Promel and Ihlas Bebou are joined on the sidelines by the suspended Anton Stach and injured Czechia international Adam Hlozek.

Predicted XI (4-2-3-1): Baumann; Kaderabek, Chaves, Ostigard, Prass; Samassekou, Becker; Bischof, Kramaric, Moerstedt; Orban

Unavailable: Kabak (Injured), Lenz (Injured), Stach (Suspended), Promel (Injured), Bebou (Injured), Hlozek (Injured)

Questionable: Gendrey (Injured), Tohumcu (Injured), Bulter (Injured)

Heidenheim Team News: Couple of doubts

There are no fresh injury concerns for Heidenheim this weekend as they make the trip to Baden-Wurttemberg to face Hoffenheim. They do have a couple of doubts, though, such as Julian Niehues and Maximilian Breunig.

Predicted XI (3-4-2-1): Muller; Mainka, Gimber, Siersleben; Traore, Kerber, Wanner, Fohrenbach; Conteh, Honsak; Zivzivadze

Unavailable:

Questionable: Niehues (Injured), Breunig (Injured)

Hoffenheim vs Heidenheim Prediction

Hoffenheim struggled in the opening couple of months of the Ilzer era and the former Sturm Graz boss was coming under pressure but some good business in the winter transfer window, such as the arrival of Nigeria international attacker Gift Orban from Olympique Lyonnais, has helped them majorly improve. Heidenheim massively overachieved by ever reaching the Bundesliga, let alone finishing seventh last season and they now appear destined for a return to the second-tier. Hoffenheim, with form and home advantage, are firm favourites for this one.
