Girona preview: Crisis club Catalans

Girona finished third in their fifth ever La Liga season in the 2023/24 campaign, but they then sold off many key players and manager Michel is now already complaining about the way in which the club is being run after their regression last season has continued.

The Catalans started the 2025/26 season by being comfortably beaten 3-1 by Rayo Vallecano at the Montilivi in Catalonia. A week later, Girona then suffered a 5-0 demolition at the hands of Villarreal at El Madrigal in their most recent outing.

Sevilla preview: Potential relegation battlers

Sevilla have seemingly been circling the drain towards La Liga relegation for quite some time and one of the fallen giants of Spanish football have once again started badly, now under the management of Argentine coach Matias Almeyda.

On the opening day of the season, the Andalusians suffered a 3-2 defeat to Athletic Club at San Mames in the Basque Country, before a week later then suffering a 2-1 defeat at home to Getafe at the Ramon Sanchez Pizjuan.

Girona team news: Potential departures

Michel has said he wants the transfer window to be over as quickly as possible, with Girona dealing with a few key players facing rumoured departures such as Bojan Miovski.

Predicted XI (4-4-1-1): Krapyvtsov; Hugo Rincon, Reis, Krejci, Blind; Tsygankov, Ivan Martin, Jhon Solis, Juan Roca; Portu; Dawda Camara

Unavailable: Van de Beek (Injured), Miovski (Injured)

Questionable: Ricard Artero (Injured), Yangel Herrera (Injured), Abel Ruiz (Injured)

Sevilla team news: A few issues

Sevilla are dealing with a few issues for this one with Joan Jordan and Adnan Januzaj among those sidelined, whilst key attacker Dodi Lukebakio remains a doubt for the visitors.

Predicted XI (4-2-3-1): Nyland; Juanlu, Castrin, Kike Salas, Jose Angel Carmona; Gudelj, Agoume; Vargas, Isaac Romero, Ejuke; Adams

Unavailable: Joan Jordan (Injured), Stanis Idumbo (Injured), Januzaj (Injured)

Questionable: Nianzou (Injured), Ramon Martinez (Injured), Lukebakio (Injured)

Girona vs Sevilla prediction

Girona and Sevilla are both crisis clubs off the pitch at the moment, and the two sides have also started the season really poorly. As a result, a low quality and nervy affair is to be expected for this one but, given that both sides will believe they can very much get something out of this one, it should end up being quite an entertaining watch for the neutral in Catalonia.

Girona vs Sevilla tip: Both teams to score
