Genoa preview: Vieira must evolve
Patrick Vieira replaced Alberto Gilardino mid-way through last season and Genoa managed to eventually steer themselves clear of the danger zone, but an evolution is required for them to ensure they once again kick on this season.
In that sense, it was therefore a very underwhelming start to the campaign as Genoa were held to a goalless draw by Lecce last weekend, a week after they had eased past LR Vicenza by three goals to nil in the first round of the Coppa Italia.
Juventus preview: Steady and strong Old Lady
Juventus, under the management of Igor Tudor, are expected to steadily improve this season with a bit more control and caution in their play, as opposed to the way in which Thiago Motta had the Bianconeri playing for the majority of last season.
The Old Lady started their season in impressive fashion as they comfortably defeated Parma by two goals to nil at the Allianz Stadium in Turin last weekend. New signing Jonathan David opened the scoring for Juve before Dusan Vlahovic scored late on.
Genoa team news: Couple of issues
Genoa have a couple of injury issues to deal with for this weekend as defender Sebastian Otoa is sidelined, whilst Caleb Ekuban is a doubt due to a thigh issue.
Predicted XI (4-2-3-1): Leali; Norton-Cuffy, Marcandalli, Johan Vasquez, Caricol; Masini, Frendrup; Carboni, Stanciu, Gronbaek; Colombo
Unavailable: Otoa (Injured)
Questionable: Ekuban (Injured)
Juventus team news: Cambiaso suspended
Italy international Andrea Cambiaso was sent off in that clash with Parma last weekend, and he is now missing through suspension ahead of the visit to Genoa this week.
Predicted XI (3-4-2-1): Di Gregorio; Gatti, Bremer, Kelly; Kalulu, Locatelli, Thuram, Kostic; Conceicao, Yildiz; David
Unavailable: Juan Cabal (Injured), Cambiaso (Suspended), Miretti (Injured), Milik (Injured)
Questionable: Perin (Injured)
Genoa vs Juventus prediction
Patrick Vieira has previously been known for an attacking and progressive approach, but his Genoa side managed to improve last season with impressive defensive solidity. They need to evolve a bit this season in order to progress, but they are coming up against a Juve side that have good cohesion and can be quite controlling in their play, and so siding with the Old Lady in a low-scoring encounter seems a good bet.
