Frankfurt preview: Woeful in Europe

Eintracht Frankfurt were expected to go quite well in this season’s UEFA Champions League but 19 goals conceded in their seven matches has undermined them with just four points collected from their seven matches thus far.

They have decided to sack Dino Toppmoller, replacing him with interim boss Dennis Schmitt. Things haven’t really been changed, though, with a 3-2 loss to Qarabag last week before a 3-1 defeat at home to Hoffenheim at the weekend.

Tottenham preview: Strong in Europe

Thomas Frank remains under intense scrutiny in the dugout at Tottenham Hotspur with Spurs being held to yet another poor performance and result in a 2-2 draw with Burnley at Turf Moor, dragging them towards the relegation battle in England.

Spurs have been remarkably impressive in the UEFA Champions League, though, with their comfortable 2-0 defeat of Borussia Dortmund leaving them tucked inside the top eight and the automatic round of 16 spots from the league phase.

Frankfurt team news: Attacking injuries

Frankfurt have made some interesting signings, such as Ayoub Amaimouni-Echghouyab and Younes Ebnoutalib but both cannot yet play in this competition, while Jonathan Burkardt and Michy Batshuayi are injury absentees in the final third.

Predicted XI (3-4-3): Santos; Collins, Koch, Theate; Kristensen, Skhiri, Larsson, Brown; Doan, Uzun, Knauff

Unavailable: Arrhov (Ineligible), Kosugi (Ineligible), Baum (Injured), Amaimouni-Echghouyab (Ineligible), Ebnoutalib (Ineligible), Kalimuendo (Ineligible), Burkardt (Injured), Batshuayi (Injured)

Tottenham team news: Abundance of attacking absentees

Tottenham have major availability issues in midfield and attack with new signing Conor Gallagher ineligible, while Lucas Bergvall, Rodrigo Bentancur, James Maddison, Mohammed Kudus, Dejan Kulusevski and Richarlison make up part of a long injury list.

As well as issues in midfield and attack, Thomas Frank confirmed that both Micky van de Ven and Pedro Porro have also not travelled with Randal Kolo Muani and Wilson Odobert havung been involved in a car accident, but they should both be fine.

Predicted XI (4-2-3-1): Vicario; Spence, Romero, Danso, Udogie; Gray, Olusesi; Odobert, Simons, Kolo Muani; Solanke

Unavailable: Dragusin (Ineligible), Van de Ven (Injured), Davies (Injured), Souza (Ineligible), Porro (Injured), Bissouma (Ineligible), Gallagher (Ineligible), Bergvall (Injured), Bentancur (Injured), Maddison (Injured), Kudus (Injured), Kulusevski (Injured), Tel (Ineligible), Richarlison (Injured)

Questionable: Palhinha (Injured), Odobert (Injured), Kolo Muani (Injured)

Frankfurt vs Tottenham prediction

Tottenham will head to Frankfurt believing that they can ensure they head into the automatic knockout spots in the UEFA Champions League. Spurs have benefitted from playing poor teams in Europe, and also playing against teams in poor form at the right time. That is the case once again with Frankfurt some way adrift of where they should be and siding with an away win would appear the way to go for this one in Germany.

Frankfurt vs Tottenham Tip: Double chance – Tottenham to win or draw
