It's been a rollercoaster of a start for Frankfurt in the league phase of the UEFA Champions League, with Dino Toppmoller's chaotic side defeating Galatasaray 5-1 on Matchday 1 before losing by the same scoreline to Atletico Madrid last time out.

High-scoring games have also been their specialty back in Germany; they currently lie seventh in the Bundesliga having scored the second-most goals in the division (behind Bayern), while conceding the most among the 18 teams.

Liverpool preview: Worrying times?

Liverpool's 1-2 defeat at home to Man Utd on Sunday has turned Liverpool's blip into something seemingly more concerning with Arne Slot's side now having lost their last four games in all competitions.

One of those came in their last Champions League outing against Galatasaray, although they did triumph in their league phase opener with Virgil van Dijk netting an injury-time winner against Atletico Madrid.

Frankfurt team news: Hojlund blow

Midfielder Oscar Hojlund featured in Sunday's 2-2 draw with Freiburg on Sunday but has suffered a thigh injury that will rule him out for the "foreseeable future".

Hojlund joins injured Elias Baum on the sidelines, while striker Jessic Ngankum has recently returned to training after a long lay-off, but was not included in Frankfurt's Champions League squad.

Predicted XI (4-2-3-1): Santos; Kristensen, Collins, Koch, Theate; Larsson, Skhiri; Doan, Uzun, Brown; Burkardt

Unavailable: Baum (Injured), Hojlund (Injured), Ngankam (Injured)

Liverpool team news: Potential rotations

Defensive midfielders Wataru Endo and Ryan Gravenberch are doubts, with the latter picking up a knock on Sunday, while Giorgi Mamardashvili is set to continue in goal in the absence of first-choice stopper Alisson Becker.

There are calls for the under-performing Mo Salah and Alexander Isak to be dropped, but Slot may see this fixture as a good opportunity for them to build confidence, while the same can be said of summer signing Florian Wirtz who could be favoured against an opponent he knows well.

Predicted XI (4-2-3-1): Mamardashvili; Frimpong, Konate, Van Dijk, Robertson; Mac Allister, Jones; Salah, Wirtz, Gakpo; Isak

Unavailable: Alisson (Injured), Leoni (Injured)

Questionable: Endo (Injured), Gravenberch (Injured)

Frankfurt vs Liverpool prediction

Liverpool really need a positive result here to stop the rot, and Frankfurt could potentially be an ideal opponent for them to get back on track against a Frankfurt side who have been incredibly open this season.

Liverpool were a deadly side on the counter-attack last season, and they are likely to be handed plenty of opportunities on the break against an opponent who are seemingly committed to their attacking philosophy despite some big defeats this season.

The visitors remain hugely vulnerable at the back though, and Frankfurt are certainly capable of getting on the scoresheet themselves given their attacking prowess. We expect a high-scoring game, with Liverpool ultimately coming out on top.

Frankfurt vs Liverpool Tip: Liverpool to win & over 2.5 goals
