THE LOWDOWN
GENOA
Mid-way through last season, Genoa lost their manager Alexander Blessin to Jupiler Pro League side Royale Union Saint-Gilloise. They replaced him with 2006 FIFA World Cup winner Alberto Gilardino and, owned by the controversial and often protested against 777 Partners, they gained automatic promotion back to the top-flight as Serie B champions.
Some interesting signings over the summer transfer window, such as Mateo Retegui and Ruslan Malinovskyi, raised expectations for Genoa so they may be a little underwhelmed with just two victories in their opening seven matches, albeit performances have been consistently strong. They have suffered just one loss in their last four matches.
AC MILAN
Last season, AC Milan relinquished the Serie A title to Napoli, finishing fourth, but did manage to reach the semi-finals of the UEFA Champions League. The Rossoneri re-invested well into their squad with some excellent signings across the pitch and Stefano Pioli will be tasked with winning the Scudetto, once again.
They shared a goalless draw with Borussia Dortmund in the group stages of the UEFA Champions League in midweek and they have now suffered just one defeat in nine matches across all competitions so far this season. They have won six out of seven in the league with an anomalous 5-1 thrashing at the hands of Internazionale in the Derby della Madonnina the one game they didn’t win.

THE PREDICTION
Ahead of the season, Genoa would have expected to be quite entertaining and difficult to play against at home but they have been a little underwhelming so far this season and they are also missing some key players for this weekend’s encounter. AC Milan have recovered well from their shellacking at the hands of their city rivals and the Rossoneri are the overwhelming favourites for what could end up being a high-scoring match.
TIP: AC MILAN TO WIN
