Elche preview: A much-needed victory
Having started the season slowly, Elche managed to overcome Espanyol in their most recent outing. They won by three goals to one in Barcelona with a brace from Fer Nino and a German Valera strike after going down to ten men after just six minutes.
Prior to that victory, Elche had collected just two points in six matches after surviving the drop on the final day of last season. Former Porto boss Martin Anselmi has been brought in to replace Eder Sarabia over the summer.
Celta Vigo preview: Frustrated Celta
Celta Vigo have, like last season, been frustrated by too many draws at the start of this season with four draws in their opening seven matches with the Galicians not winning until their seventh game of the season.
In that seventh game, Celta hammered Racing Santander by five goals to nil at Balaidos with a Hugo Gonzalez penalty as well as goals from Ilaix Moriba and Miguel Roman before a Pablo Duran penalty.
Elche team news: Federico Redondo suspended
The man that was sent off against Espanyol a few weeks ago, Federico Redondo is now missing through suspension with Buba Sangare also a doubt now due to a hamstring injury.
Predicted XI (4-3-3): Matias Dituro; Matia Barzic, Pablo Bigas, Victor Chust, Revivo; Lemar, Javi Morcillo, Gustavo Villar; Lucas Cepeda, Fer Nino, German Valera
Unavailable: Federico Redondo (Suspended)
Questionable: Sangare (Injured), Yago Santiago (Fitness)
Celta Vigo team news: Fresh injuries
Celta head to Elche with a few fresh injuries as both Carl Starfelt and Miguel Roman are now sidelined alongside Jonas El-Abdellaoui and club captain Iago Aspas.
Predicted XI (3-4-3): Radu; Alvaro Nunez, Yoel Lago, Marcos Alonso; Javi Rueda, Ilaix Moriba, Aleix Febas, Hugo Alvarez; Hugo Gonzalez, Ferran Jutgla, Swedberg
Unavailable: Starfelt (Injured), Miguel Roman (Injured), El-Abdellaoui (Injured), Iago Aspas (Injured)
Questionable: Sebastian Caceres (Injured), Andres Antanon (Injured)
Elche vs Celta Vigo prediction
Elche will take confidence from that victory at the RCDE Stadium but the fairly patchy record of manager Martin Anselmi and their overall performance level throughout this calendar year means a spurt up the table remains very unlikely. Claudio Giraldez suggested his Celta side put in one of their worst performances of the season in a 5-0 win over Racing and he wouldn’t be too far wrong and they have to be viewed as favourites for this one.
