Mattia Bellucci qualified for the Shanghai Masters after wins over Elias Ymer and Alexandre Muller. This was after a run to the final of a Challenger event in Jingshan, and the Italian currently has eight wins from his last nine matches. He has also advanced to a couple of ATP quarter-finals in Acapulco and Stuttgart during 2026. Bellucci is ranked 85 in the live rankings.

His first-round opponent in Shanghai is Yi Zhou, who enters the tournament as a wildcard. The 21-year-old also competed in Chengdu, losing in the first-round to Juan Manuel Cerundolo. He then attempted to qualify for the China Open but lost in the first stage to Pablo Carreno Busta in straight sets.

Bellucci has found form during this Asian swing, and he dominated Muller in his final qualifying match before the main draw of this event. He will be viewed as the firm favourite to win against Zhou in Shanghai.
